Good Morning! So you have a Drainage Problem or Water Issue. You have water in a place in or around your home or business that is causing damage or displeasure or even anxiety! My Name is Blane. I have been solving water problems for 29 Years in Oklahoma. I own Oklahoma Drainage. Maybe I can provide information that can help You?

Drain Analysis

Lets look at your Water Problem. How is water getting into the problem area? Just as an example, Lets say you have water standing on the edge of your patio and during heavy rains it flows across your patio and under your back door into your house. Yikes!

It is always a great Idea to observe the water while it is moving into the problem area if possible.

Step One is to determine if there is One Primary Source of water flowing into the problem area. Example, Water is flowing across your yard, down the hill to your patio. Where it stands until the Patio becomes a pond and water starts to come into your home. Seems straight forward enough. Ah, but is it?

Look for secondary sources of water flowing into the problem drainage area. Many times there are one or several additional sources of water. Example, The water from your roof is flowing into your gutters and one of the gutter downspouts is directly feeding into the drainage problem area. OR, Maybe the gutter downspout belongs to your neighbor and is being fed into your problem area flowing along a flowerbed.

The Point Is! Look for more than one source of water or two sources of water. There may, again, be several. Example Your up-hill neighbor irrigates his yard constantly with his in-ground sprinkler system. Water flows down the hill from His yard UNDERGROUND ALL SUMMER LONG. Your Problem Drainage Area stays wet all the time even without rain.

List the primary and secondary sources of water and try to determine how they are moving into the problem area. This will help in designing your Drainage System.

In conclusion,  Step One in solving a Drainage Problem and building your own drainage system is to identify all the ways that water gets into the problem drainage area.
